poem 17

After Losing You

I declined the mangrove
life, the half-hearted-lover
life, the sadness-sitting-heavy-
in-my-heart life. I declined
the Tuesday sun, the neighbor's son,
a hive. I declined the asphalt road,
extended hand, the body
laying heavy in the sun.

*

I woke up imagining you
moving through your empty
house like a cocooned ghost.
